Armenia’s Gas Economy to Be Restored

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–About 20,000 private residences in the towns and villages of Armenia will be supplied with gas this year.

According to the head of the Hayrusgasard joint stock company–Roland Adonts–after a long recess since 1997–the realization of a gas supply program has re-started in Armenia. Due to which–about 100,000 private homes are now supplied with gas.

The company is planning to entirely restore the gas economy until 2004. All the solvent industrial enterprises will be supplied with gas as well. Energy–heating and chemical enterprises now owe $25 million to Hayrusgasard.

Contrary to many other countries which have several sources of gas supply–Armenia receives gas only from Russia through the South Caucasus-Trans Caucasus gas pipe-line–which is not in a good condition. The Iran-Armenia gas pipe-line–negotiated upon only currently–will secure permanent gas supply to Armenia.
