Armenia Iran Discuss Energy Cooperation

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–On Wednesday–an Armenian delegation–led by energy minister Karen Galustian–met with Iran’s first vice president Hassan Habibi in Tehran to discuss Iran-Armenia cooperation in the field of energy–Iranian IRNA news agency reported.

Habibi voiced Iran’s readiness to expand ties with neighboring countries–including Armenia–while stressing that Iran has invariably tried to maintain peace and security at the borders with its neighbors.

Stressing the prime importance of the Iran-Armenia joint economic commission–Habibi expressed hope that Iran’s relations with the Central Asian states and Caucasus would improve in the future as a result of the commission’s operation.

The Iranian official further stressed the need for formulating a special program to accelerate the implementation of the agreemen’s reached between the two countries. He called for continued cooperation with Armenia in the field of energy.

Habibi said it was crucial for the officials of the two states to go ahead with the bilateral talks to finalize the already discussed agreemen’s between the two countries.

Elaborating on the Meghri power plant in Armenia–the Armenian minister said Iran and Armenia could effectively work together on the project.

He called for cooperation with Iran in construction of a refinery in Meghri–construction of the Meghri-Yerevan-Georgia route–and the Gajran tunnel.

He also underlined the necessity of continuation of cooperation with Iran within the framework of the two countries’ joint economic commission–as well as the finalization of the bilateral agreemen’s.
