Weightlifter Sets Two World Records in Sydney

* Rudik Petrossian captures fifth place in competition.

SYDNEY–Armenian weightlifter–19-year-old Rudik Petrossian set two junior world records in the men’s 69 kilogram category Wednesday and was ranked fifth overall during the Sydney Olympic Games.

Petrossian was pitted in competition with the world’s top weightlifters in his category–and with only a five kilogram difference was unable to steal a medal victory.

However–Petrossian’s performance broke two world records in what is termed the clean and jerk in his category.

Bulgaria’s Galabin Boevski captured the gold medal–while fellow Bulargian Georgi Markov won the silver medal. Belarussian athlete Sergei Lavrenoc won the bronze medal.
