Aram I Arrives in New York

NEW YORK–His Holiness Aram I–Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilcia arrived in New York Tuesday to preside over celebrations marking the 1700th anniversary of Armenia’s adoption of Christianity as a state religion.

The Catholicos kicked off his US visit–which will bring him to the West Coast on Oct. 18–accompanied by his scepter bearer Very Rev. Krikor Chiftjian.

Aram I was greeted at Kennedy airport by Prelate of the Eastern US and Canada Arch. Oshagan Choloyan–Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian–Canada Prelacy Locum Tenens Bishop Khajag Hagopian–as well as members of the Prelacy Executive Council and community leaders.

Upon his arrival–the Catholicos officiated a Mass at the St. Gregory the Illuminator Church in New York.
