Oskanian Updates on Upcoming Activities

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia’s attitude to the recent exercises of the Georgian and Turkish frontier troops at the border between the two countries is normal–and Armenia does not see any threat and believes that these exercises will not in any way affect the Armenian-Georgian relations–Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian said at a news conference. He pointed out that the demarcation of the Armenian-Georgian border is under way; a joint commission is working. "There are a lot of problems–and we are trying to solve them," Oskanian said.

Recently–the press published a statement of the Socialist Armenia Union according to which the European Parliament deman’s that the Russian military base be withdrawn from Armenia’s territory–and Armenia to re-orientate its policy to the European Union. Responding to Noyan Tapan’s question at his October 4 news conference–Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian said that he knows "nothing of the kind."

On October 23–the Armenian foreign minister is to start a series of his official visits to Finland–Sweden and Norway.

Armenian President Robert Kocharian is to pay an official visit to Bishkek October 12-13. The president is scheduled to participate in a summit under the CIS Collective Security Treaty. The topic of the summit will be "Assessment of the situation in Central Asia and necessary measures to improve the situation."

According to Oskanian–Armenia is implementing its foreign policy on the principle of complementary. The less hostility and tension in the region–the more benefit Armenia can derive. He believes different countries in the region must co-exist–but not clash.
