New Sonographic Center Opens in Yerevan

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A new sonographic diagnostic center opened in Yerevan Thursday underneath the Yerevan State Medical University. The center is a branch of Thomas Jefferson University of Pennsylvania. The center was opened with the assistance of the Armenian General Benevolent Union and with financial and organizational support of Nazar and Levon Nazarians.

Catholicos of All Armenia’s Garegin II blessed the Nazarians for their great contribution to the rehabilitation process in Armenia and mentioned that the construction of St. Trdat Chapel under Yerevan Cathedral is also being rendered assistance with the help of Nazar Nazarian.

The Minister of Health of Armenia Ararat Mkrtichian and Rector of Yerevan Medical University Vilen Hakobian also expressed their gratitude. The minister promised to ensure the further development of the center as well as the implementation of the AGBU’s other programs in the public health sphere.

Levon Nazarian–who combines benevolent activities with his work at the University of Pennsylvania–brought a license for the center from Pennsylvania. He delivered the first lecture on ultrasonic diagnostics; the record of the lecture will be used in the future. According to Executive Director of the center Andreas Hambartsumian–25-30 students at a time can be trained at the center.

The ceremonial opening of the center was held as part of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Yerevan State University. During its 70-year activities–Yerevan state University turned out 24,000 doctors–1,400 of them being foreigners from 22 countries.
