Belarus Beats Armenia 2 1 for Second Win

MINSK (Reuters)–Belarus rebounded from last week’s defeat by Poland to beat Armenia 2-1 in their World Cup group five qualifier on Wednesday.

Dynamo Kiev midfielder Alexander Khatskevich gave Belarus a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute when he headed home a Maxim Romashchenko’s high cross.

Just 11 minutes later–Khatskevich won another battle in the air and flicked a header to Nikolai Ryndyuk who beat Armenia keeper Arutyun Abramyan from close range.

Armenia defender Felix Khodjoyan pulled one back in the 50th minute when he picked up the ball after a bad clearance by Belarus and fired home from the edge of the box.

But Belarus withstood a late Armenia rally to secure their second win from three matches while the visitors slumped to their second straight loss after holding Norway to a 0-0 draw in their opener qualifier last month.
