Karekin II to Begin Egypt Ethiopia Visits

ECHMIADZIN (Noyan Tapan)–On October 12 His Holiness Karekin II–Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenia’s–will leave for Egypt upon the invitation of His Holiness Shenouda III. At the conclusion of the five-day visit–on October 18–His Holiness will leave for Ethiopia upon the official invitation of His Holiness Abuna Paulos–the Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

Being the guest of the Coptic Orthodox Church–His Holiness will have several meetings with Pope Shenouda III and pay visits to the Coptic churches and monasteries to become acquainted with their activities.

Meetings with the leaders of other churches and religions–as well as with high ranking state officials are planned in Egypt. His Holiness will pay visits to Al Azhar–the residence of Sheikh Tantawi–and the Mufti of the Arab Republic of Egypt. In the Greek Patriarchate of Alexandria–His Holiness will have a meeting with His Holiness Petros VII–Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.

His Holiness will also pay visits to the Diocesan Headquarters such as the Cathedral of St. Gregory the Illuminator in Cairo–and the Church of St. Paul and St. Peter in Alexandria. Meetings will be held with the Armenian community of Egypt and the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia.

From October 18 to 21–His Holiness will be the guest of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

His Holiness will be accompanied by Archbishop. Dirair Mardigian–the Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Romania–Abp. Arsen Berberian–Bishop Yeznik Petrossian–General Secretary of Inter-Church Relations’ Department Bp. Arakel Karamian–Reverend Father Arshen Sanossian–and Fadey Sarkissian–the President of National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. In the course of the visit–Abp. Zaven Chinchinian–Primate of the Armenian diocese of Egypt–will join His Holiness’ delegation in Egypt.

On October 22 His Holiness will return to the Mother See of Holy Echmiadzin.
