Author Alice Navasargian’s Visits Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–US citizen Alice Navasargian–the author of the works "Iran-Armenia: golden bridges" and "Armenian women devoted to the stage"–is currently on a visit to Armenia.

At her October 13 meeting with journalists–Navasargian said that she was born and educated in Iran–and is well acquainted with the atmosphere described by art workers mentioned in her book "Iran-Armenia: golden bridges". The book contains information on 50 Armenian art workers and 220 color reproductions. She mentions renowned art workers Martiros Saryan–Hakob Kojoyan and Vardges Surenian–and also young artists who founded new art schools in Iran. For instance–Andre Sevukian was the first to draw illustrations for poetry of Hayam and Hafiz–and later he was expelled from Iran for daring to address the subject of women and wine. The artist Klara Abgarian was so famous that a gallery was assigned for displaying her works.

In her second book–"Armenian women devoted to the stage"–Alice Navasargian writes about 50 women who made a great contributions to dramatic art from the first half of the 19th century to the present. The author pointed out that many names are not mentioned in the book–so second and third volumes are expected to be published. Head of the Department Sociology–Yerevan State University–Ludmila Harutiunian said that the book is of high importance–as it is the first attempt at studying the contribution of Armenian women to a particular sphere. Navasargian also intends to write a book about Armenian men who made a great contribution to dramatic art.
