International Community Helps Armenia Overcome Drought Consequences

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenian agriculture ministry told Armenpress that the UN Armenia office is planning to allocate $9.9 million of financial aid to drought stricken areas of Armenia. $4.7 million of the total sum will go to support insecure families within the program Food against Work–and $5.2 million as food assistance.

The UN Armenia office also plans to donate $4.5 million worth of medicine to families suffered from the drought.

According to the same source–French Democracy Aid organization–operating in Georgia–has decided to allocate 300,000 Euros to the Armenian province of Vayots Dzor to overcome the consequences of the drought that hit the province in summer. The money will go to buy flour for nearly 4,000 suffering families and forage for 2000 cattle.
