Babayan Trial Once Again Postponed

STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–The Babayan trial–which–after a 10-day break–was to resume Monday–has been postponed once again–this time for a week.

The court decided to postpone the trial in connection with the need to clarify the issue of defendant Sasun Aghajanian’s participation in the trial. Aghajanian–who is charged with direct execution of the act of terrorism–was recently undergoing treatment in Armenia.

Court Chairman Suren Alexanian read out the decision of the commission of forensic experts–according to which–Sasun Aghajanian–who was in Stepanakert–was acknowledged compos mentis and could participate in the court sitting as a defendant. Judex Shakarian–Samvel Babayan’s lawyer–demanded a medical conclusion–which confirmed the defendant’s ability to participate in the trial.

Taking into account the opinions of all participants in the sitting–for the purpose of settling the procedural matters connected with Aghajanian’s bringing to court–as well as giving his lawyer time to get acquainted with the case materials–the Court Chairman postponed the consideration of the case to next Monday.
