ARF Anniversary Marked in Moscow

MOSCOW–Over 500 community members celebrate the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation at the Moscow Architects’ Union Center December 2. In attendance were prominent Armenian and Russian intellectuals–public servants–political figures and the Armenian ambassador to Russia.

The master of ceremonies for the evening–Russia ARF Bureau representative Seyran Baghdasarian–spoke of the party’s traditional goal in bringing about political justice to the Armenian people. He also mentioned the ARF’s role in the establishment of the first independent Armenian republic and its efforts at preserving the Armenian identity throughout the Diaspora. The party’s commitment to the liberation of Artsakh and to the Armenian Cause in general were also noted by Baghdasarian. The ARF Bureau representative also commented on the party’s position regarding the friendly relations between Armenia and Russia–especially within the military sphere.

The first ambassador of the Russian Duma to Armenia–Vladimir Stoupishin–spoke of meetings between him and various ARF representatives in Armenia and Artsakh. The ambassador also mentioned his efforts at reversing the anti-ARF propaganda of the Soviet era. He wished the Armenian people perseverance and will to overcome the hardships endured since independence.

The other main speaker of the evening was Armenia ARF Bureau representative and Chairman of the Defense–National Security and Interior Affairs Committee of the Armenian Parliament–Vahan Hovhannisian.
