YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Violations of human rights in the cases of former commander of the NKR Defense Army Samvel Babayan and journalist Vahram Aghajanian were included in the documen’s of the well-known human rights organization "Amnesty International".
The section entitled "The arrest of Samvel Babayan and others: statemen’s on torture and violations of proper legal procedure" points out that "some of the detainees–including Samvel Babayan were subjected to cruel beatings in custody–had no proper access to their lawyers. Prosecutor General forbade the lawyers to meet with their clients and study the materials of the case until the Prosecution completes the investigation…. the detainees were deprived of daily walks and were not allowed to receive parcels with food and cigarettes."
"Amnesty International" has urged the NKR Prosecutor General to ensure the observation of norms of legal procedure–stressing that any information on torture and cruel treatment must be examined–and those guilty held responsible.
The section entitled "Prisoner of conscience Vahram Aghajanian" contains a detailed description of the circumstances of the case and indicates the names involved. Both the sections are included in the report entitled "Azerbaijan" with the subtitle "Issues arousing concern in the controversial Karabakh region."
