Horizon Celebrates New Year With Nine Hour Program

Close to 120,000 Armenian households tuned in New Year’s Eve to watch Channel 55-Armenian Cable Television’s nine-hour New Year’s special program.

This was the second New year’s program produced by the channel. Last year’s show was broadcast in Glendale–Burbank and La Crescenta–whereas this year’s areas included Pasadena–Altadena and Montebello. The show started at 7 p.m. and ended at 4 a.m. the following morning. "Horizon"–"Chuko Show"–"Best Show"–"Jerry’s Sound"–"High Vision"–and "Russian TV" were six of the twenty-six contributers to the Channel 55 program.

All footage was recorded in Los Angeles and Yerevan–uniting artists from both cities in one show. The Los Angeles community had the opportunity to experience Armenia’s preparations for the New Year.

"Horizon" manager John Kossakian opened the show presenting the program’s highlights and participants. He said he hoped all the effort at this year’s production would surpass last year’s original production. Kossakian thanked the participants–70 singers and artists–eight dance groups–and 23 sponsors and producers–who made the program come to life.

New Year’s messages were presented throughout the program by Karekin II–Catholicos of Armenia’s–Prelate Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian and Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian–Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian–US Congressman Adam Schiff–and close to 40 community representatives.

The majority of the program was based on music and involved close to 400 musicians and volunteers. The production also included a sketch comedy performed by "Chuko," which brought upon a joyous atmosphere on New Year’s Eve.
