Iranian Delegation in Armenia

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–President Robert Kocharian praised the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental Commission for its contribution to furthering the development of bilateral economic cooperation.

Kocharian met with Iran’s Economy and Finance Minister Hossein Namazi on January 24–who is leading the Iranian delegation that arrived in Yerevan to participate in the third recurrent session of the Commission. Kocharian expressed hope that the Commission’s work would be efficient and concrete solutions would be found on an extensive range of issues.

Kocharian also said–"bilateral contacts have reinvigorated lately and the results may become tangible for the two nations in the near future."

Minister Nazimi said his country was regarding relations with neighboring Armenia as of strategic importance. "The bilateral relations in many areas may lead to strengthening of the regional stability," he said.

Referring to the discussed issues–Nazimi and Armenian Energy Minister Karen Galustian–who is the co-chairman of the Commission–said the two sides had virtually agreed on all the issues.

The Iranian minister also met with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian. Nazimi was quoted by foreign ministry public relations department as saying "construction of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline will give a new impetus to development of relations between Armenia and Iran."

The plenary session of the Commission opened January 24 in the Government’s Reception House. Speaking at the opening ceremony–the co-chairs expressed hope that it would promote further strengthening of relations between the two countries. The session will end by signing a package of documen’s.
