PASADENA–The Hovakimyan family’s talents were presented to the community in a unique evening organized by Hamazkayin on Sunday–February 4. The walls of the AGBU "Alex Manougian" Center were adorned with Vahram Hovakimyan’s artwork–including a display of sculptures in the center of the hall. Varoujan Hovakimyan’s work was also displayed–alongside his father’s art. The evening’s second program was held at the chapel adjoining the hall–where a piano recital was presented by nineteen-year-old Shoushanik Hovakimyan. It should be noted that Shoushanik–the daughter of Vahram Hovakimyan–was a student of world-known virtuoso Armen Babakhanian. Her program included selections from classical–modern–and classical Armenian works. Shoushanik performed pieces by Beethoven–Haydin–Chopin–Liszt–Bartok–Babajanian–and Hovannesian.
Shoushanik portrayed immense maturity through her brilliant technique and unique interpretation of the challenging and professional repertoire. A promising future undoubtedly lies ahead of this young and gifted musician. The Armenian community takes pride in the accomplishmen’s of the Hovakimyan family and looks forward to the many performances and exhibitions still to come.
It is due to the Hamazkayin Music Committee that the Armenian community in the LA area was given the opportunity to be exposed to such talented new artists. The Hamazkayin Music Committee also recently released a 3-set CD of the complete works of Parsegh Ganatchian.
