Armenian Greek And Iranian Foreign Ministers to Discuss Cooperation Enlargement

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The foreign ministers of Greece–Armenia and Iran are due to meet in Athens on March 8–to discuss issues of trilateral economic cooperation.

Greece’s Foreign Minister George Papandreou will receive his counterparts from Iran–Kamal Kharrazi–and Armenia–Vartan Oskanian–with whom he had signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in energy–transport and tourism on September 9–1999 in Yerevan.

A wide spectrum of issues–concerning cooperation in energy–industry–information technologies–health areas and prevention of human-made calamities will be discussed.

The meeting is expected to conclude with the signing of a Memorandum on Understanding. The Armenian delegation will return from Greece on March 9.

The first Armenia-Greece-Iran trilateral meeting was held in Athens–December of 1997. The second was held in 1998 in Tehran and the third in Yerevan in 1999.

Through the course of the 1999 Yerevan meeting–the ministers discussed the participation of third countries in a natural gas pipeline construction between Iran and Armenia. At that time–the three also confirmed their interest in the use of renewable energy–and agreed to establish an energy database in their countries. Greece had also tabled initiatives to organize training seminars on tourism–transport–industry–technology and the economy.
