For the third year in a row–Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School in Hollywood won first place in Division II Academic Decathlon among Southern California Private Schools.

"The competition this year was very fierce–especially in our division–and we are very proud of our students," said Viken Yacoubian–Principal of Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School. "Our students’ continued success is a reflection of our rigorous academic program and our emphasis on discipline and hard work."

"To be first in our division for a second year in a row is very exciting," continued Yacoubian–"This second victory shows that we are a school to contend with."

A team of 9 students competed in ten events–including speech–interview–art–music–mathematics–economics–language and literature–essay–social science–and super quiz. This year’s winning Pilibos team included seniors Hakop Seksenian–Souren Hazarian and Xavier Gutierez; juniors Raffi Babian–Emir Kasouha–Hermine Barseghian and Hampig Tankazian; and sophomore Andreas Hindoyan and Shant Karnigian. The students earned a total of 50 medals: 18 Gold–20 Silver–and 12 Bronze.

Team Coach Jacque Mishler expressed her pride in the students. "The other schools in our division were also winning a lot of medals–but our team never once let me down. I am also very proud of them because all the students also won individual medals," she commented.

"We could not have done as well as we did without the tremendous support of our faculty," continued the coach. Other teachers who provided invaluable help include Harout Arsen in the area of mathematics; Christian Kiley and Nora Yacoubian in the area of speech; and Heather Jones in the area of science.

"I can’t thank the teachers enough for all of their help and hard work," said Principal Viken Yacoubian. "Our dedicated faculty sets and excellent example for our students–and they are the foundation on which our entire academic program rests" he concluded.
