“Azerbaijan Wants Russia to Lead Karabakh Talks” Says Aliyev’s son

BAKU–Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev’s son–Ilham Aliyev–told the Russian Ekspert journal that Azerbaijan would like Russia to lead the talks on the settlement of the Karabakh problem–because neither the US–nor France have the real possibilities to solve the problem. According to Aliyev–only Russia has these possibilities. Aliyev also said that Azerbaijan and Armenia had come to the conclusion that war was not expedient to solve the Karabakh problem. Despite the fact that the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents–Heydar Aliyev and Robert Kocharyan–had decided to solve this problem through compromises–these compromises should meet Azerbaijan’s national interests–Aliyev added
