ST. PAUL–In memory of the 1.5 million Armenian victims of genocide during World War I–Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura–Saint Paul Mayor Norm Coleman–and Minneapolis Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton have proclaimed April 24 as Armenian Remembrance Day–the Armenian Cultural Organization of Minnesota announced on Monday–April 16.

His Excellency Dr. Arman Kirakossian–Armenia’s ambassador to the United States–will be the keynote speaker at Minnesota’s second annual public commemoration of the Armenian Genocide on April 24–2001 at St. Sahag Armenian Church and Community Center. In editorials of September and October 1915–the Minneapolis Journal–Minneapolis Tribune–Saint Paul Pioneer Press–Rochester Daily Post and Record–Duluth News Tribune–and other Minnesota newspapers unambiguously condemned the genocidal measures then in progress against the Armenia’s.
