International Astronomical Conference to Be Held in Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia will host this year’s International Astronomical Conference–which convenes every two years. Twenty-two countries will participate in the conference–with close to 90 astronomers from the US–Japan–Germany–Italy–France and other nations.

According to Areg Mikayelian–head of Armenia’s famous Byurakan Observatory and organizer of the upcoming conference–the tradition of holding astronomical conferences was initiated over 50 years ago by renown Armenian astrologer Victor Hambartsoumian. This year’s conference will be the fifth such conference to take place in Armenia.

Over 50 papers will be presented on active galaxies–which will later be published in a journal by an astronomical society.
