Homenetmen’s 26th Navasartian Games to Open Sunday

ONE FINALIST WILL HAVE A CHANCE AT WINNING $10,000

The Homenetmen Western US 26th annual Navasartian Games Opening Ceremony will take place on Sunday–May 6–2001 at the Pasadena High School basketball courts located at 2925 East Sierra Madre Street–in Pasadena. The general public and Homenetmen’supporters will once again partake in this memorable sports tournament–which has been encouraging athletics in the community for over a quarter century.

The Navasartian torch will be lit at the eternal flame of the Montebello Armenian Genocide Monument–and transported to the athletic field by athletes in a marathon.

The ceremony will commence with the blessing of Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian. Representatives of the regional and central executives will present the messages of their respective bodies. The honorary chairman of the Games will also be announced.

As a newly instituted attraction–athletes will compete in a 3 Point Shoot Out. The main feature of this year’s Games will be the Half Court Shot–where one finalist will have a chance at winning $10,000. A member of the audience will participate in the Half Court Shot through lottery.

The Games will begin the same morning–starting at 8:00 a.m. The much anticipated Opening Ceremony will be held from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
