YEREVAN (YERKIR)–The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) of Armenia organized two memorable events held in Ararat and Vayots Dzor–Armenia on June 17–in honor of Karekin Njdeh’s 115th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of Baruyr Sevag’s death.
Both events were attended by ARF Armenia Executive Council representative Armen Roustamian and member Hratch Tadevosian–head of the ARF faction of the Armenian parliament Aghvan Vartanian–members of the Armenian Youth Federation of Armenia–representatives of the ARF Gomidehs of Ararat and Vayots Dzor–and friends and supporters of the ARF.
The group visited the Zangakatoun village–where they attended the opening ceremony of a bust in honor of Baruyr Sevag–and placed flowers on the poet’s tomb. Speaking at the memorial were Armen Roustamian–Azad Yeghiazarian of the Literary Foundation–and Levon Ananian of the Armenian Writers Union.
The ARF delegation’s next stop was the gravesite of the popular Armenian hero Karekin Njdeh–which is located near the Gladzor and Spitakavor churches. Members of the Armenian Youth Federation of Armenia’sang Armenian patriotic and revolutionary songs in honor of Njdeh. A highlight of the event was the twenty-three individuals who took their oaths and joined the ran’s of the ARF. The oath was presided over by Armen Roustamian–who spoke of Karekin Njdeh’s life and dedication to the Armenian people. Also speaking at the memorial was Aghvan Vartanian.
