Illegal Activities Cause Stir in Kapan

KAPAN (Armenpress)–The Kapan chapter of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) in southern Armenia blocked the Yerevan-Kapan highway on July 14 for three hours in order to draw the authorities’ attention to the illegal dismantling of equipment belonging to the local Kapantrans company and its sale to a foreign company.

A member of the ARF chapter claimed the equipment was sold to a Georgian company for $1 million and that 12 trucks were ready to transport the supplies to Georgia.

Governor Edik Barseghian met with protesters and promised to raise this issue at an upcoming government session. The protesters dispersed after the governor ordered police to place permanent guards at the plant’s gates.
