TBILISI (Noyan Tapan)–On the night of July 16-17–a group of Azeris from the Gardaban region of Georgia blocked the Baku- Tbilisi railroad–stopping cargo and passenger transportation for almost six hours.
This action was addressed to the local government to pay attention to the social problems of the local population. Alibala Askerov–the leader of "Heirat" People’s Movement of Georgia–told the ANS agency that the main demand of the population of the Azeri villages Jandarli–Nazarli–Ulyanovka and others–is to secure with electricity–natural gas and drinking water.
Considering the urgency of this situation–several local government representatives–including Kvemo Kartli and Governor Levan Mamaladze–met with the protesters and promised to satisfy their deman’s as soon as possible.
