President Signs Bill Education Reform

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President Robert Kocharian signed the bill "On approving the state program on improving education in Armenia in 2001-2005".

Under the "State program on the improvement of education" Armenia is passing on to a 11-year- system of secondary education from the following academic year which will apply to those children who will begin attending school in 2001 and thereafter.

General education starts at the age of 6.5–if the child becomes 6.5 by the end of December of the current year. Children who will not become 6.5 by December will be admitted to schools according to the order established by the state administration.
