12. Nuclear Plant Staff Threatens Strike
YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The situation at the Armenia’s Nuclear Power Plant remains unclear regarding the threat of a strike by the NPP staff if the unpaid wages (120-170 million AMD) are not paid. According to preliminary information–the strike may begin on August 7.
Deputy Director of the NPP Slavik Danielian said that the NPP administration did not receive any official statement on the strike either from the NPP staff as a whole or from individual staff members. But Danielian refused to cite specific figures–stating that the unpaid wages are now being paid off–and that the sum is currently equal to the wages for one month. Thus–the main part of the unpaid wages for 3-4 months remains unpaid.
Danielian pointed out that the staff’s demand are fair. But–according to him–instead of resorting to strike and endangering the work of the NPP–the staff should–for instance seek legal assistance. Danielian pointed out that special measures are stipulated for such cases in case of a strike.
