Power Ministers’ Summit Yield Productive Results

YESSENTUKI (Armenpress)– Radio Russia reported that the leaders of anti-terrorist agencies of Azerbaijan–Armenia–Georgia–and Russia have recently held a secret meeting in Yessentuki Stavropol Territory. They have discussed the situation in the region and the ways to counteract terrorism and separatism.

The decision to conduct joint preventive interstate operations by law-enforcement agencies was taken at the meeting between the four interior ministers of the former USSR republics. The operations were aimed at the eradication of organized crime. This union was later titled the Borzhomi (a town in Georgia) Four.

The first stage of the Granitsa-Zaslon (border blocking) operation was carried out on December 2000.

The meeting in Yessentuki was chaired by Deputy Russian Interior Minister Maj-Gen Nikolay Bobrovskiy. One of the main tasks at present is the improvement of coordination between interior agencies and directorates on fighting organized crime near the (states’) borders.

The Main Interior Directorate (GUVD) of the Russian Interior Ministry has already witnessed positive cooperation with their counterparts.
