President Comments On Entrance Examinations

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The presidential staff has not received complaints about entrance examinations to the country’s higher schools," President Robert Kocharian told reporters after visiting Yerevan State University August 9. He visited the examination room where the Mathematics–Physics and Armenian language exams were underway. He made a positive assessment of the centralized examinations system introduced in 1997–pointing out that it is being improved every year.

The president considers his participation necessary for ensuring an impartial application and admission process–and to alleviate any pressures put on the admissions committees. "There is a need for such interference–and I think it will remain for some years more," the president said.

Robert Kocharian also said that establishment of the Knowledge Estimating Center is a positive addition to the University–as it is an acknowledged standard in the world educational system. However–according to the president–there are still several problems preventing Armenia from going over to a new educational system.
