Repair At NPP Behind Schedule

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Repairs at Armenia Nuclear Power Plant are still under way. The NPP is functioning normally–however–Deputy Director of the Armenian NPP–Slavik Danielian–told reporters scheduled repairs will finally be completes after the regular lot of nuclear fuel is supplied to the NPP. The repair will not be completed within the 45 days it originally intended to be completed by.

Regarding warnings about possible strike issued by the NPP staff–Danielian said that the concept of "strike" does not exist at the NPP–because it would create a very unsafe environment.

At its August 9 meeting the Presidential Human Rights Commission made a decision on the payment of wages to the personnel of the NPP. Considering the request of the NPP staff and hearing the officials of the Ministry of Energy–the Commission arrived at a conclusion that the NPP staff’s demand is legal and well-grounded. Their human rights have been violated and the wages have not been paid. The Commission decided to demand that the government settle the problem–and to elaborate a program of settling this problem of the state’s debts to citizens.

The Commission also discussed the issue of the delay of paymen’s of pensions–wages and allowances to employees. According to the draft decision–the untimely payment of sums is a gross violation of human rights–and the seriousness of the problem requires radical approaches–including amendmen’s to the Criminal Code. The Commission proposes the revision of the Articles in the Criminal Code that stipulate punishment for delay of pensions–wages and allowances. The draft decision was approved–the final voting to be held at the next meeting
