YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia received 24,700 tons of humanitarian aid worth a total of $13.9 million in the first six months of 2001. Vegetables made up a total of 29.3 percent of the imported goods as opposed to last year’s 6.6 percent. The amount of chemical products decreased from last year’s 41.7 percent to this year’s 29.3 percent. The amount of devices and equipment also decreased from 9.3 percent in 2000 to 8.2 percent this year.
According to the National Statistical Service–humanitarian aid was received from 21 countries. The United States donated 54.8 percent–Italy donated 18.5 percent–and Japan donated 10.9 percent.
