YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Most of the preparations of Yerevan sport teams and sport centers for the 2nd Pan-Armenian Games has finished.
The necessary sports equipment was purchased–the streets leading to the Vazgen Sargssian stadium are illuminated–the financial problems facing the teams’ participation in the competitions ($10 for one participant) were all solved–said Vice-Mayor of Yerevan Firdus Zakharian at a meeting at the Yerevan Municipality on August 16.
According to Yerevan Mayor Robert Nazarian–an agreement was reached with the authorities concerning the maintenance of public order–transportation of teams–sanitary cleaning–and ensuring water supply at sports grounds during the ten days during which the Pan-Armenian Games will be held.
During the 2nd Pan-Armenian Games Yerevan will be represented by 225 athletes in 9 sports (football–minifootball–basketball–volleyball–lawn tennis–table tennis–chess–swimming–and track and field).
At the request of the Javakhk delegation–Robert Nazarian–who is Chairman of the Yerevan City Committee of the Pan-Armenian Games–took the teams from Javakhk under his sponsorship.
"Everything is ready for the second Pan-Armenian Games and we do not have doubts that they will be a success"–said the President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Ishkhan Zakharian on August 15.
He said all the stadiums and other sporting facilities are ready to accommodate almost 3,000 Armenian athletes from 33 countries. The official opening is scheduled for August 18. The games will close August 26.
