Azerbaijan Arrests Six for Spying for Iran Report

BAKU (Reuters)–Azeri security services have arrested six Muslim clerics on suspicion of spying for Iran–an independent news agency in Azerbaijan reported on Monday.

Government officials declined to comment on the Turan news agency report. Ministry of National Security spokesman Araz Gurbanov said: "We will give out information when the appropriate time comes."

Turan’said the six were arrested on Saturday.

Relations between Azerbaijan and its southern neighbor Iran have soured in the last month over a disputed section of the oil-rich Caspian Sea.

In July–Iranian gunboats ordered Azeri-licensed oil exploration ships out of what Tehran claims are Iranian waters.
