YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Congressman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.-27) and a delegation he is leading arrived in Armenia late Tuesday night.
The Congressman’s trip to Armenia is organized by the Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region.
During his three-day visit–the Congressman is scheduled to meet President Robert Kocharian and other government official–among them Constitutional Court chairman Gagik Harutiunian. Schiff’s delegation will also travel to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic where meetings with President Arkady Ghoukassian and Parliament Speaker Oleg Yessayan are on the agenda.
The brunt of the meetings will focus on furthering US-Armenia relations–said Armenian Revolutionary Federation political executive director Giro Manoyan–who also announced that Schiff is scheduled to hold a press conference on Friday.
In an interview on Aug. 14 Horizon Television’s Community Forum program–Schiff pledged his continued support for an Armenian Genocide resolution in Congress and discussed his upcoming trip to Armenia–which he said will allow him to closely gauge the economic–socio-political and domestic situation there.
