Tension Between Armenia’s and Cossacks Continues in Krasnodar

KRASNODAR–Russia (Noyan Tapan)–The Armenian Community Administration of the city of Krimsk in the Krasnodar region applied to the city administration to incorporate the celebrations of the 1700th anniversary of Armenia’s Christianity with the annual celebration of the establishment City holidays (usually celebrated in September). Before the city administration made a final decision–the Cossacks of Krimsk–who usually follow all the activities of community’s organizations of the region and city–expressed their opposition.

As reported by the Armenian newspaper "Erkramas" of Southern Russia–the Cossack’s Ataman Council of Krimsk region–during its last session–released an announcement–which decisively opposes the Armenians celebration. the announcement states that–"City Day is the annual celebration of Krimsk Cossacks–originating from 1857–and we will not allow anybody to include any national-religious elemen’s into it."

According to the Erkramas newspaper–this is the third cause of tension in the region–created as a result of the 1700th anniversary celebration. The first incident occurred during the 1700th Anniversary festivities held in Sochi–where no non-Armenian organization representatives were invited to participate. Then–in Anapa–the local Armenian community disregarded the opposition from the city administration to celebrate the anniversary at the central square–and thereby caused a conflict with the Cossacks.
