Defense Minister Discusses Attack on US

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian Minister of Defense–Secretary of the National Security Council Serge Sargssian told reporters on Thursday that the issue of establishing a CIS anti-terrorist center will be discussed during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Armenia. He reported that the same day he had a telephone conversation with Secretary of the National Security Council of Russia Vladimir Rushailo–who will arrive in Armenia as member of the Russian delegation on Friday.

Sargssian reported that in addition to the 40 documen’s concerning the Armenian-Russian military cooperation–another seven documen’s are to be signed during Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Ivanov’s visit to Armenia. These documen’s will fill the gap of the legal underpinnings in the Armenian-Russian relations.

Responding to the question concerning the list of enterprises to be negotiated with the Russian’s–Sargssian stated–"These are the plants owned by the state." The minister pointed out that the Russian government commission has worked in Armenia for two days–and preliminary results will be clear in a couple of days.

Responding to reporter’s question as to whether minor conflicts should be frozen so that all efforts be directed at preventing international terrorism–Serge Sargssian said–"If by a minor conflict you mean Karabakh–I cannot agree with you–for us it is not a minor conflict." According to the minister–the tragic events in the US are an additional testimony to the fact that even the most powerful and developed countries are not secured against terrorism.

As to whether Armenia’s armed forces have been put on high alert–the minister said–"We are working in a normal fashion–with the exception of anti-aircraft defense–which has not been put on high alert–but has been strengthened a little."
