Prelate Offers Condolences to President Bush

LOS ANGELES–In a letter dated September 14–2001–Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian offered his condolences to President George W. Bush on the aftermath of last Tuesday’s attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Below is the text of that letter: Dear Mr. President, On behalf of the Western Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America–I would like to express our deepest sorrow and heartfelt sympathy to You and to the entire nation for the tragic loss of lives of all innocent people who fell victims to the terrorist attacks of Tuesday–September 11–2001–in New York–Washington DC and Pensylvenia.

Human principles and especially the Christian doctrine would never condone such actions directed against the lives of innocent people. These barbaric acts have deeply shocked the Armenia’s throughout the world.

On the evening of this catastrophe–we held a prayer vigil for the victims and their families in St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church in Glendale–California. On Friday–September 14–2001–responding to Your call for a day of mourning and prayer–we held memorial services in all of our churches throughout California. A special memorial service was also held in every church under our jurisdiction throughout the United States on Sunday–September 16–2001–wherein we prayed for the peace of the souls of the victims.

We pray to Almighty God to bless the souls of those who lost their lives–and give strength to their families and to the people and the government of the United States of America to overcome this tragedy and to win the war against terrorism.

Prayerfully,

Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian

Prelate–Western USA
