“The Happy Bus” Awarded Top Honor At Yalta Film Festival

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–At the International Film Festival held recently in Yalta (Ukraine) the movie entitled–"The Happy Bus"–directed by Albert Mkrtchian won the highest award of the festival–the Grand Prix. Out of a possible of six–two Armenian filmmakers were awarded First-place awards. Journalist and TV producer Harutyun Azarian for his 18-minute documentary "With The Wings Of Dance," as well as Bagrat Simonian and Edik Gevorgian for a 20-minute short-length film called "In The Painting Plate."

Chairman of the Cinematography Union Sergey Israelian–announced the news on Thursday during his press conference at the Yerevan Cinema House. Israelian added that this was a great success since the award winners are representing both the older and younger generations of filmmakers.

Director and general manager of Hayk movie-studio Ruben Gevorgiants–who was among the jury at the Yalta festival–said that from the 1400 productions which were initially presented to the festival–only 10 films and 52 TV productions from 27 countries were selected. Russian Parliament speaker Genadi Seleznyev also attended the festival.

Two other Grad Prix awards went to a movie produced in Kirgizia as well as to the TV series produced at Russian "TV Center." The Armenian filmmakers’ participation was supported by the Secretary of the International Union of Journalists Ashot Jazoyan. Ruben Gevorgiants was given a special achievement medal of Alexander Dovjenko.

Albert Mkrtchian mentioned that "The Happy Bus" has been invited to participate in numerous movie festivals. After being placed on the Berlin film market–the picture has had several offers from Australia–Finland–Korea and Austria. "The Happy Bus" has already been shown in many countries and has had positive reviews in the foreign press.
