Struggle Against Terrorism Must Exclude Political Or Religious Motives

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armen Rustamian–a member of the Armenian delegation to the Council of Europe from the ARF–deplored Azerbaijan’s standpoint concerning the Karabakh regulation–saying that "it stops at nothing to propagandize and impose its own opinions and approaches as well as accuses Karabakh and Armenia of supporting terrorism."

Rustamian was speaking at the autumn session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly.

"However–the events of the last weeks show that Baku is cited in press reports and official documen’s as a country harboring international terrorists and having direct contacts with the network of Osama bin Laden’s organizations," Rustamian said.

Referring to Georgia–Rustamian said that Armenia is interested in establishing a close and friendly relations with that country. "We believe that such relations can benefit the two nations given the establishment of truly democratic institutions in Georgia," he said.

"Armenia welcomes Georgia’s achievemen’s towards democracy after its accession to the Council of Europe–as it raises the general level of democracy in the region," Rustamian said.

However–according to Rustamian–there are still unsolved problems–especially those related to the minorities’ rights protection. "The importance of this issue is particularly stressed in Armenia–as today hundreds of Armenia’s live in Georgia. Issues concerning the national minorities are extremely important. They must be solved in time in order to prevent an increase of tension in the country," he said.
