Anniversary of Armenia’s Independence Celebrated in Paris

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A ceremonial reception on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Armenia’s Independence was held at Paris’s Grand Hotel on Monday. The reception for 2,500 guests had been arranged by Armenia’s Ambassador to France Eduard Nalbandian and Armenia’s Ambassador at Large Charles Aznavour.

Among the guests were representatives of the French elite–local Armenian community members–hundreds of senior state officials–former ministers–senators and deputies–political and public figures–party leaders–mayors–ambassadors accredited to Paris–well-known representatives of the intelligentsia–workers of culture–representatives of the press and the business community.

The national anthems of Armenia and France were performed. Ambassador Nalbandian addressed a speech to those attending the party. He emphasized the resolution of the Armenian people to build a developed and prosperous Armenia. He told about achievemen’s of independent Armenia during the ten years and underlined that Armenia occupied a due place in the family of nations. In this connection–Nalbandian pointed out the support of the world community–singling out France’s support.

According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry–the halls of the hotel where the reception was held were beautified with the state flags of Armenia and France. A concert of an ensemble of violinists performed music by Komitas–Khachaturian–Aslamazian–Altunian.

Charles Aznavour told reporters during the reception that despite the existing difficulties and the short period of only ten years to cope with them–one can observe progress in Armenia.

Ambassador Nalbandian said that Armenia has actively developed its relations with France over recent years. The state visit of Armenia’s President to France–the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by France–and French support to Armenia in the matter of admission to the Council of Europe were a testimony to this.
