President Visits National Security Ministry

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President Robert Kocharian visited the Ministry of National Security of Armenia and held meeting with the executive personnel.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Armenia’s Independence–the president issued a decree awarding the Medal "For battle service" to a number of officers of the Ministry of Security. While presenting the medals–the president wished the officers success in their work.

On behalf of the ministry–the Minister of National Security Karlos Petrossian thanked the president–pointing out that his visit is testimony to the government’s concern about the ministry. He assured the president that the ministry’s personnel approach all tasks set to them in complete seriousness and responsibility.

In his speech Kocharian addressed the main tasks of the system–placing the struggle against terrorism as a top priority. According to the president–the events in the US showed that even developed and prosperous countries are not secured against the evil of terrorism. The president said that the situation should be properly assessed and seriously discussed in order for corresponding measures to be taken.

The president also spoke about the economic situation–saying that a 7.7 percent growth was registered in the last eight months. The president development– he stressed that any attempt aimed at disturbing stability in the country is a blow against business and the country’s citizens.

He firmly rejected any speech about revolution–pointing out the significance of the political authorities’ responsibility for the future of the country and people.

Kocharian also addressed the issue of the state government–saying that the execution of the state’s activities with the greatest efficiency–remains a top priority for the local government officials.

The president also spoke about the importance of the struggle against corruption within the country.
