YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The 1700th anniversary celebrations of the adoption of Christianity is a stimulus for our people of return to their spiritual roots–said President Robert Kocharian during a meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew I accompanied by Catholicos of All Armenia’s Karekin II on November 5.

The president was especially grateful for the Patriarch’s visit to Armenia this year–when Armenia’s across the world are celebrating this anniversary. Acknowledging that the spiritual revival of Armenia contributed to the strengthening of the church’s role in the government–Kocharian pointed out that the church always supported the state. The president characterized the current state-church relations as warm and very cooperative.

According to the presidential press service–Bartholomew I was very pleased with the cooperation of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople with the Armenian Apostolic Church–stressing that the spiritual and historical similarities and modern issues further strengthen the fraternal relations of the two churches.

The Catholicos of All Armenia’s–mentioning the importance of the Ecumenical Patriarch’s visit–stressed that such contacts make it possible to help each other both spiritually and are a means to search for solutions to emerging problems together.
