ARF Western US Makes New Appointmen’s

GLENDALE–The Western US Central Committee of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation–in discussing the issue of Asbarez newspaper and Horizon Television–decided to appoint Vatche Proodian the editor of the Armenian Section of Asbarez and Ara Khachatourian–the editor of the English. Khachatourian will also named programming director for Horizon Television.

Proodian received his bachelor’s degree in Armenian studies from Haigazian College in Beirut. From 1977 to 1985–Proodian was a member of the ARF Central Press Office–after which he was named director of the Vana Dzayn Armenian radio station. From 1989 to 1990–he was the assistant editor of Hairenik Daily newspaper in Boston–assuming the publication’s editorship from 1990 to 1993.

Following a brief tenure as Executive Director of the Western Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church–Proodian joined the staff of Asbarez as its political editor–then assistant editor. Until this recent appointment–Proodian served as Acting Editor of the newspaper.

Khachatourian received his bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Northeastern University in Boston. Before relocating to Los Angeles–he served on the staff of the Hairenik daily and The Armenian Weekly newspapers. In Los Angeles–he was the media relations director at the Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region.

In 1992–Khachatourian was named English Editor of Asbarez and served in that capacity until November 2000. Khachatourian has also consulted on several local–state and federal election campaigns.

The Central Committee is convinced that Proodian and Khachatourian will undertake the duties entrusted to them in a responsible manner and wishes them success in their endeavors.
