Azeri Speaker Brushes Asides Accusations of Defeat

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–In response to a heavy criticism that followed his announcement that Azerbaijan was not ready to solve the Karabakh conflict militarily–the chairman of Azerbaijani parliament Mourtouz Aleskerov said he was not in opposition to the country’s President Hayder Aliyev.

Aleskerov accused the media of trying create animosity between him and the president. "I have repeatedly stated that the country’s policy is designed and implemented by the president. I have also repeatedly stated that the Karabakh conflict should be solved peacefully and opportunities for a peaceful settlement are available. The Council of Europe and other international organizations are also making efforts to help end the conflict–therefore–there is no need to resume hostilities," Aleskerov said.
