TBILISI (Armenpress)–Indusmin–the UK partner of Georgia’s national oil company–is planning to drill its first exploration well in early spring in Kakheti–eastern Georgia–according to the company press release.
Its concession area of around 1,000 square kilometers–contains considerable amounts of high quality–oil and gas–according to the results of recent seismic surveys and an analysis of oil seeping out of the ground at several spots.
Test drilling should determine the quantity of the oil and gas reserves. Oil was found in western Georgia as early as the mid-19th century. However–the rise of Baku as a world oil center made further exploitation uneconomical. Georgia’s onshore oil reserves are estimated at 120 million tons.
