Babayan Released From Custody

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Karen Babayan–the former Minister of Internal Affairs of Karabakh and the former Mayor of Stepanakert–was released on December 19 after spending a year and nine months in custody. The Board on Criminal Cases of the Karabakh Supreme Court–having considered Anaheim Yesayan’s (Babayan’s lawyer)–complaint–overturned the City Court’s verdict from November 16. On November 16–the court sentenced Babayan to four years in prison under Article 14 of Karabakh’s Penal Code.

Karen Babayan was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for abusing is political position and for illegal arms possession.
