Energy Minister Comments On Pipeline Agreement

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia’s Energy Minister Armen Movsisian announced on Thursday that all "technical documen’s" needed for the construction of Iran-Armenia gas pipeline will be prepared "before the end of 2002."

The agreement to construct a 140-km pipeline was finalized during President Robert Kocharian’s visit to Iran. The minister said other countries might also be involved in the construction of the $124 million pipeline.

However–it is still unclear whether the two governmen’s reached an agreement about the price of Iranian gas–which was cited earlier as the major reason for postponing the project. Another major problem the Armenian government must face is securing funding for the construction.

According to another memorandum signed in Tehran–the two sides agreed to chose the most feasible project to construct a hydro power station on the Arax river–marking the border between the two countries.
