Mutafyan Meets Ecevit Over Turkish Legislation

ANKARA (Armenpress)–Turkey’s prime minister Bulent Ecevit met with Armenian Patriarch of Turkey Archbishop Mesrob Mutafyan last week when the patriarch expressed his concerns over a legislation–pending in the Turkish parliament–which deals with ownership rights of the national minorities of the country.

Mutafyan said that national minorities should be granted the same ownership rights–which are enjoyed by Turks–this he said "will put an end to discrimination between Muslim and non-Muslim communities."

The Istanbul-based Armenian language daily Marmara quoted Ecevit as saying that the bill was still being considered and that the opinions of national minorities would be taken into account during its consideration.
