World Bank Continues to Support Programs for Armenia

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The World Bank Armenia office is planning to implement several credit programs in Armenia in 2002–including a $20 million worth tranche of Structural Adjustmen’s Credit (SAC-5) loan–a $20 million loan for the management of natural resources–and a $10 million loan for improving management of the public sector.

An official of the World Bank Armenia’said that loans would also be provided for the improvement of drinking water networks in the provinces.

The $10 million loan for improvement of the public sector management is supposed to strengthen the process of decision-making by state management and executive bodies–to provide a clearer definition of what it is to be a civil servant–and to make the public sector more accountable.

Another goal is to improve the state procurement system–the inter-governmental financing system and to strengthen the inner and external auditing operations.
