Government Pleased With Finance And Economics Ministry

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The government discussed the activities of the Ministry of Finance and Economics for the year 2001 on Tuesday and stated that they were pleased with the Ministry’s activities.

According to Minister Vardan Khachatrian–positive shifts were observed in all spheres of the ministry’s activities. Last year achievemen’s include the establishment of quarterly appropriations of budget expenses–state bond placemen’s with a lower interest rate–a longer maturity term–and an increase in healthcare financing. However–the Controller’s office discovered many corrupt financial practices that amounted to 20-20.7 billion drams (about $35 million) loss.

The minister lauded the government’s successful cooperation with international financial organizations. According to Khachatrian–the cooperation will proceed within the framework of mutual obligations. It was mentioned that the International Monetary Fund delegation will arrive in Armenia in February. Khachatrian also said that selector meeting will take place with the regional chairman of the IMF Thomas Wolf on February 7–13–and 14.
